Notice of Recording Fee Increase - Effective October 1, 2025


RECORDING FEES for standard documents are $20.00 for the first page and $10.00 each subsequent page.

FEE TO RECORD NON-STANDARD DOCUMENTS - an additional $10.00 per document will be charged for recording a document that doesn't meet the document standard.  Fee will be in addition to the standard recording fee.

Overview

The Clerk and Recorder is an elected county official established by the Constitution of Montana. Statutory authority establishes the duties as providing the primary administrative function for recording and maintaining the majority of all the legal documents relating to real estate records, land descriptions, county birth and death records, and the records of the Board of County Commissioners, which includes budgets and setting levies for the county and school districts.

Duties include; accounts payable for the county as well as payroll of the county employees, recording documents, registering Births and Deaths in Valley County. Some of the other duties include registration of teaching certificates, registration of home schools, and being the presiding officer of the county transportation committee.

In Valley County the Clerk and Recorder/Superintendent of Schools is also the Election Administrator. All Valley County Elections, City and Town Elections, and Special District Elections are run through this office. Residents of Valley County may register to vote at the Clerk and Recorder/ Superintendent of Schools.
